How Donating Works for Businesses
At Simply STO, we make corporate tax credit donations straightforward and impactful for Arizona businesses. Here’s how it works:
- Choose Your Program: Your business can donate to one of our two corporate tax credit programs: Low-Income (for students from families at or below 185% of the poverty level) or Disabled/Displaced (for students with disabilities or in foster care). Each offers a dollar-for-dollar credit against your Arizona corporate income tax liability.
- Eligible Businesses: C-Corporations, S-Corporations that pay Arizona corporate income tax, insurance companies with premium tax liability, and certain exempt organizations with unrelated business taxable income can participate. S-Corporations may also pass credits to individual shareholders if they donate at least $5,000 (using Forms 335-S or 341-S).
- Get Pre-Approval: Contact us anytime to inquire about your donation—we recommend reaching out by early spring (March-April) for the best chance at securing funds, as caps fill quickly. We submit your request to the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) starting July 1 each fiscal year (e.g., July 1, 2024, for FY 2024-2025) under the statewide cap—$149 million for Low-Income and $6 million for Disabled/Displaced as of FY 2024-2025. ADOR has 20 days to approve, and approvals are first-come, first-served.
- Make Your Donation: If approved, you must send us your payment within 20 days of ADOR’s approval notice—typically due by late July or August if applied for at the fiscal year start. Unlike individual donations, you can’t recommend specific students—Arizona law directs funds to eligible students across participating schools.
- We Distribute Scholarships: We award scholarships to qualifying students based on program rules, ensuring over 90% of your donation goes directly to tuition support. Our process maximizes reach with minimal overhead.
- Claim Your Credit: Use the receipt we provide to claim your tax credit on Arizona Form 335 (Low-Income) or Form 341 (Disabled/Displaced) when filing by your corporate tax deadline (typically April 15 or October 15 with an extension). Excess credits can carry forward up to five years.
Your business supports Arizona students while reducing your tax burden—simple, effective, and compliant.
